Let’s get to know one another!

Hey There! It’s me, you may know me as a Kitsap County lifestyle family photographer, but that’s just one bit of who I am. I’d love to give you a bit of a peek behind the curtain. And to maybe share more about me and what makes me tick when I’m not photographing you and yours.

I moved to Bremerton, Washington from the Midwest in early 2019.  My husband was born and raised in Kitsap County; we met while we were both on vacation in San Diego, CA! After 4 months of long distance I packed my bags and moved to Washington state. Crazy, I know! Since then, we’ve gotten married, I’ve become a mom to two little girls, we have a baby boy due to arrive early June of this year. Oh, and I can’t forget about sweet Alma, my couch potato, pittie mix! Between running my business and being a wife and mom, I’m kept rather busy. But, in whatever spare time I have, you can find me and my husband working on home improvement projects in our new-ish home. With the current one being updating a guest room into another nursery!

A few fun facts about me:

I am introverted…but also really LOVE meeting new people and getting to know my clients on a deeper level. Call me an extraverted introvert… or is it introverted extrovert???

I’m a pretty sarcastic humor type of a person and am known to drop an f bomb or two in conversation. But NOT around your kids. Pinky promise. (I was a pre-school teacher at one point, I got you!)

I started (and stopped) my college education not one, not two, not three…but FOUR times. I went down paths to becoming a vet tech, hair stylist, teacher and studied business administration. But, in the end, none of those was a right fit. While that may seem surprising to some, perspective has shown me that all those roads led to exactly where I was meant to be – a photographer and entrepreneur.

How it started…

The move to the Pacific Northwest gave me the push I needed to take Heather Lewis Portraits full-time. I started doing photography in 2015 when I was feeling stuck in my job and in need of a creative outlet. So I began taking photos of my foster dogs and my friends. It sparked a joy in me that I couldn’t resist. So I kept going, growing and learning more about the art of photography. Soon enough, I made a basic website, started an Instagram page for my work and people started to seek me out. I juggled a busy, full-time career managing a multi-million dollar real estate agent’s business for 6 years before taking the leap of faith to move cross country and take my business full time.

Where we are now…

Now, as a mother of two with our third on the way, I understand how important it is to document your children’s growth spurts and tiny details. But documenting yourself, mama: that matters, too. Because I’m right there with you in this phase of life, I know what it’s like to lose yourself in motherhood, and how tricky it can be to transition into new areas in life while juggling being a mom. It’s so incredibly important to feel seen, and see yourself how others see you. It’s my mission to do that for you in each of my sessions.

While photography started as a need to flex my creative muscles and find myself…how I feel capturing people and emotions – and how I get to MAKE people feel in doing so – is what drives me forward today.

Thanks for letting me share a little bit about myself. I’d love to hear if any of these things resonated with you. Feel free to give me a follow on social media, or send me a note here. I’ll be waiting for you.
